The Bellator Bantamweight Grand Prix continues at Bellator 289 this Friday; one day prior, the full card was set to weigh in for the Connecticut-based event.
Bellator 289 plays host to both semifinal fights in the 135lb tournament. In the main event, interim champ Raufeon Stots is scheduled to put his belt on the line against trash-talker Danny Sabatello. A million dollars awaited the finalist, and a win Friday would at least give one man a shot at becoming a millionaire.
The other tournament semifinal finds Patchy Mix on the road to redemption. After dropping his first title shot in the promotion, he was looking to secure another, and that meant earning a win over Magomed Magomedov.
The co-main event of Bellator 289, meanwhile, is an immediate rematch between Liz Carmouche and Juliana Velasquez. Their first fight had seen Velasquez, then Bellator’s women’s flyweight champ, winning until a fourth-round TKO by Carmouche. Velasquez would appeal the decision, arguing that she was never out and still defending; her pleas fell on deaf ears, however.
The score will be settled (hopefully) on Friday as a result, with a trilogy fight a possibility should Velasquez win the title back.
Weigh-ins for Bellator 289 take place Friday morning in Uncasville, CT; results are below. Later in the day, the ceremonial weigh-ins take place, starting at 1:55PM ET. A live stream of the affair can also be viewed below.
