The best laid plans of the PFL simply won’t work out for November 25, as Shane Burgos is out of his fight with Marlon Moraes.
Burgos (15-3) was a key free agent acquisition for the Professional Fighters League this year, as they scooped him up from under the UFC’s nose as “Hurricane” Shane was coming off a two-fight win streak.
A high-profile debut as part of the PFL 2022 World Championship later this month against fellow UFC vet Moraes had the attention of fight fans. However, a Burgos injury now has the promotion in search of a replacement to face Moraes.
Ariel Helwani was first to report news of Burgos withdrawing from the bout.
In his final two UFC contests, Burgos defeated Billy Quarantillo and Charles Jourdain, both by decision. Those victories trailed back-to-back Fight of the Night winning losses against Josh Emmett and Edson Barboza.
The PFL’s final card of 2022 with see championship bouts in all six weight classes featured in the organization, with Kayla Harrison looking to three-peat as women’s lightweight champ in what is expected to be her final year in the season format. The card also marks the league’s debut on Pay-Per-View, and takes place at the Hulu Theater in New York, NY.
