“The Problem Child” has, for the past year plus, chosen to be a problem for mixed martial artists trying their hand at boxing.
Finding his niche battering past-their-prime fighters switching sports for one last payday, Jake Paul has made a small fortune battling foes who have had no business sharing the ring with him. Ben Askren, possibly the worst striker to hold a major title in mixed martial arts, entered his fight off hip surgery. Tyron Woodley was past his expiry date, and still gave Paul trouble in their first fight; the second fight, well, Paul just plain caught an opponent he’d already defeated once.
Despite a deafaning chorus of “box a boxer already,” (and Paul, to his credit, did try by booking a match with Tommy Fury), it’s 47-year old Anderson Silva who Paul was set to face on Saturday night in Glendale, AZ.
At least this time, he was fighting someone closer to his own size. The age difference, however, remained glaring, even if Silva had put on some solid performances in the ring since exiting mixed martial arts in 2020.
Will Anderson Silva be the man to finally put the “Problem Child” in timeout? We’ll know come Saturday. Full results from the event are available below. The card is available via Showtime PPV, and Fite.tv internationally. A live stream of the prelim action is also available below.
