UFC Vegas 62: Jonathan Martinez Not Fazed By Veteran Swanson, “Just Another Name”

Las Vegas, NV – UFC bantamweight Jonathan Martinez takes his 3-fight win streak into UFC Vegas 62 on Saturday night and puts it on the line against UFC veteran Cub Swanson in the co-main event.

Martinez (16-4) is coming off unanimous decision victories over Zviad Lazishvili, Alejandro Perez, and Vince Morales respectively.

“I feel really good, preparing and getting ready. I just keep doing what I’m doing. I’m training hard, focusing, little things I need to get better,” Martinez told Cageside Press among other media on Wednesday.

One of the few criticisms of Martinez’s win streak is that they are all decisions in a sport where finishes reign supreme.

“As long as I win….I like the finish, but it’s kind of hard. Can’t tell them hey don’t move let me hit you,” he said with a smile.

For most a fight against Cub Swanson is a fight against a future hall of fame opponent with a legendary resume. Martinez doesn’t see it that way.

“Just another name. Just got to go in there and do me,” he said.

For Swanson (28-12) this will be his first fight at 135-pounds which Martinez doesn’t think will change much of his opponent’s style.

“I assume it’s going to be the same as his old tape.”

The 28-year-old Martinez admitted to having watched Swanson’s fights as he came up in MMA.

“Yeah I watched him when I was growing up and stuff. I was super young. At the end of the day I want to go in there….he’s just another person,” he said.
