News of the highly anticipated match-up was first reported by ESPN.
The two lightweights have been linked in name as a match-up that would be very fan-friendly, but up until now it had only been talk. Both had actually been linked to a fight with Nate Diaz as well.
Then UFC 276 happened. Caught on video was an altercation between Poirier and Chandler which went viral on social media. Fans in turn began to call for the fight.
Chandler (23-7) is coming off a KO win at UFC 274 over Tony Ferguson. Along with agreeing to a bout with Poirier he also signed a new UFC deal for which details are not readily available.
Poirier (28-7) has been asking for a fight for months teasing bouts with both Diaz and Chandler. After the altercation at UFC 276 the Chandler fight became more likely.
Poirier and Chandler join a PPV card with a main event of Israel Adesanya defending the middleweight title against Alex Pereira.
