A pair of top flyweights will face off in December — and Iraq’s Amir Albazi will get his toughest test yet in the fight.
Albazi (15-1) will face former title challenger Alex Perez (24-7) at the UFC’s December 17, 2022 Fight Night event. Perez confirmed the booking on social media Tuesday, following an initial report by MMA Fighting.
Nicknamed “The Prince,” the 27-year old Iraqi, now residing in Las Vegas, has won all three of his fights inside the octagon. Most recently, he submitted Francisco Figueiredo, brother of flyweight champ Deiveson, inside of a round at UFC 278 earlier this month.
In addition to his three wins under the UFC banner, Albazi has also competed for Brave CF, with his lone loss coming to UFC alum Jose “Shorty” Torres.
Perez returned to action last month for the first time since his failed title bid against Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255 in November 2020. Unfortunately, he wound up submitted via neck crank in a little over 90 seconds by Brazil’s Alexander Pantoja.
Despite back-to-back losses and plenty of inactivity in between due to fights falling through, Perez is ranked #6 in the 125lb division. Albazi recently moved into the #10 spot.
The UFC’s December 17, 2022 Fight Night event does not have a location, venue, or broadcast plan set. The following bouts have been reported for the event so far:
- Julian Marquez vs. Deron Winn
- Sergey Morozov vs. Journey Newson
- Tafon Nchukwi vs. Jamal Pogues
- Alex Perez vs. Amir Albazi
