San Diego, CA – Flyweight Yazmin Jauregui makes her UFC debut at UFC San Diego against Iasmin Lucindo on Saturday night.
“I’m very happy, very happy for the opportunity to debut in San Diego where there are a lot of Mexican fans. We’re going to bring a great fight. Very happy for this moment as the fight gets closer,” Jauregui told Cageside Press among other media through a translator.
If the fans are expecting a firefight Jauregui’s opponent called it earlier in the day. Jauregui herself said she preferred a first-round finish.
“I prepared myself for three 5-minute rounds. I trained very, very hard. I trained grappling, my striking. I would love to finish the fight via knockout in the first round and go home to rest and enjoy the event,” Jauregui said.
Jauregui mentioned that she’s glad to be fighting in San Diego close to Mexico and the Mexican fans that will be in attendance. Many expect that to be the factor that makes her a crowd favorite.
“Yes of course. I know there are a lot of Mexican people here. We’re close to the border so I know it’s possible,” she said.
Jauregui is thought of by many as the one of the top, if not the top, prospect at 125-pounds.
“I’m just doing my job. This is what I love. This is what I want to do. Of course I see myself as the best. I’ve done for a long time in my professional fighting career,” Jauregui said.
“I believe in myself, I believe in my team. Things will flow and fall into place if that is meant to happen.”
