A pair of surging UFC strawweights will collide in October.
ESPN was first to report the news that Piera Rodriguez and Sam Hughes will fight on October 15 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. A source close to the situation would confirm the strawweight fight to Cageside Press.
Both fighters would confirm the fight on their Instagram story.
After losing her first three UFC fights, Hughes (7-4) has rebounded terrifically since moving her camp to Fortis MMA in Dallas, Texas. “Sampage” picked up her first UFC win in April by defeating Istela Nunes via majority decision. In her last outing, she picked up her first finish in the UFC, stopping Elise Reed with elbows and punches. Hughes told Cageside Press that she signed a new UFC contract after her win over Nunes in February.
Rodriguez (8-0) was victorious in her UFC debut when she took out Kay Hansen at UFC 273 via unanimous decision. “La Fiera” won her UFC contract on season five of Dana White’s Contender Series, defeating Valesca Machado. Rodriguez is the former LFA strawweight champion.
The UFC’s October 15 event does not yet have a venue, location, or main event.
The only other fight reported for the October event is Angela Hill vs. Lupita Godinez.
