UFC 278 goes down this August, and the long-awaited showdown between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards will finally come to pass when it does.
Edwards has taken the long road to get to this point. Since first fighting Usman 2015, which resulted in a decision loss, the British welterweight has done nothing but win. Nine wins, and a no contest against Belal Muhammad the only thing close to a blemish on his record. Edwards was probably due for a title shot a fight or two again — but better late than never.
As for Usman, he’s managed to get in the conversation as the greatest welterweight of all time, with only one other name up there: Georges St-Pierre. There’s still a few more title defenses to go for “The Nigerian Nightmare” to get there, but the fact he’s even in the running against one of the best fighters in history says a lot.
On Friday, the UFC hosted a pre-fight press conference to promote the August PPV card, which will take place in Salt Lake City, Utah. A live stream of the affair is available above. The full card for the event breaks down as follows:
