Shavkat Rakhmonov continued to dominate in his MMA career, submitting Neil Magny in the waning seconds of round 2 at UFC Vegas 57.
Undefeated welterweight Shavkat Rakhmonov faced his toughest test to date on Saturday, throwing down with veteran Neil Magy at UFC Vegas 57.
The pair served as the co-main event for the Fight Night event in Las Vegas, with Rakhmonov looking to improve on his 15-0 record.
Rakhmonov wasted no time, taking Magny down off a body kick. Rakhmonov entered half guard, then postured up to land ground and pound. Magny tried to buck him off and land an upkick, but Rakhmonov simply got back into top position. Rakhmonov switched from submission attempt to heavy ground and pound back and forth. Magny got a hold of a leg and that slowed Rakhmonov’s pursuit of an early finish.
Rakhmonov caught a kick early in the second round but didn’t turn it into a takedown right away. Instead, there was a clinch against the cage. From there, Rakhmonov began to work off a takedown, landing in side control. Rakhmonov wanted a d’arce choke, going for the grip a few times, but Magny defended well. Rakhmonov was stuck in half guard due to the defense of Magny, and created spaced by going for a headlock several times. Rakhmonov then postured up and landed ground and pound. With very little time left, Rakhmonov took advantage of an opportunity and rolled for a guillotine. With only two seconds left in the round, Magny tapped and Rakhmonov continued to dominate all comers.
