A bantamweight fight featuring a pair of contenders on rather different trajectories of late has been lined up to headline the UFC’s September 17 event.
The Fight Night card is expected to be topped by recent interim title challenger Cory Sandhagen (14-4) taking on Song Yadong (19-5-1, 1NC). Cageside Press confirmed the match-up on Friday, following an initial report by Eurosport.
Sandhagen, who fought Petr Yan for an interim title last year, has lost two straight. Prior to losing a five-round decision to Yan, he had dropped a split decision to T.J. Dillashaw at UFC Vegas 32, another five-round affair.
Those setbacks came after Sandhagen had put together wins over Marlon Moraes and Frankie Edgar, both of which earned him Performance of the Night bonuses.
China’s Yadong has won three straight fights, notching victories over Casey Kenney, Julio Arce, and most recently, a common foe with Sandhagen in Moraes. His lone loss in the UFC came against Kyler Phillips last year.
Yadong is currently ranked #9 in the bantamweight division; Sandhagen sits at #4.
The UFC’s September 17, 2022 show is expected to be a Fight Night event. No location, venue, or broadcast plans has been announced for the card, which has the following bouts reported:
