Manel Kape hopes to meet up with The Weeknd after securing a big win at UFC 275.
Kape (17-6) returns to action for the first time in 2022 at UFC 275 when he takes on the No. 8 ranked flyweight, Rogerio Bontorin. A win over the Brazilian will shoot Kape into the top 10 flyweight rankings and close to title contention.
Kape likes the match-up for himself and thinks Bontorin brings nothing to the table that he hasn’t seen before.
“Bontorin, I can say that he’s a strong fighter. He’s a strong fighter for flyweight, but I see him like a turtle,” Kape told Cageside Press in an exclusive interview. “This match-up is very well on my side. You can see the speed that I bring in an octagon. Even with the guys [that are fast], I still beat them because I’m the fastest. I don’t believe that Bontorin can show me something different that I haven’t seen. Of course, he has power and a good ground game, but I am too a black belt in jiu-jitsu… I’m the better boxer. I’m the better kickboxer. I’m the better wrestler.”
Kape predicts a second-round knockout.
The 28-year-old’s last two fights have ended in violent first-round knockouts, and if he gets another one, he hopes The Weeknd will acknowledge it.
Kape has seen the Toronto-born musical superstar in Las Vegas before but hopes to meet him finally. It just makes sense that “Starboy” needs to link up with the musical Starboy, The Weeknd.
“I’m ready to go. I love the parties here in Vegas; we [haven’t met each other yet], but I actually see him in the casino one time. Let’s see if we meet one day in the club in Vegas,” Kape said.
