This past Wednesday saw the return of Invicta FC, with a strawweight title fight capping off the night at Invicta FC 47 in Kansas City.
The Memorial Hall played host to the seven-fight card, which saw Emily Ducote make the first defense of her 115 pound title. Ducote, a former Bellator MMA flyweight, had a successful night all in all, putting it to Alesha Zappitella, a former atomweight champ who had moved up for the opportunity at another title.
Zappitella was game, but ate a few too many shots from the champ, one of which opened up a gash right on the eyelid. Terrible placement for a cut, and following the second round, the cageside physician ruled she could not continue — resulting in a TKO victory for Ducote.
That was far from the only standout performance on the night. Atomweight Jillian DeCoursey showed impressive power given her diminutive stature, knocking Lindsey VanZandt out cold. And Fatima Kline improved to 2-0 as a pro with a TKO of Sidney Trillo.
