Welsh fighter Lewis Long steps into the cage for the first time in 2022 on Friday night at Bellator 280 in Paris, France.
He enters the fight with Thibault Gouti off back-to-back finishes, something he calls “annoying.”
“The great thing is— it’s a bit annoying actually. By saying great, I mean annoying. The fact that I spent all this bloody time training, and I’m just in the first round,” he deadpanned during this week’s Bellator 280 media day. “Especially the last one, 48 seconds. I mean, as I said it’s frustrating. I’m training hard, I want to fight. These people getting folded up by me, it’s a little bit unfair on me I think, when I look on it.”
The English might be known for their dry humor; apparently the Welsh are no slouches at it either. Lewis Long clearly has a sense of humor, after all, his nickname is “The Foot.” We’re assuming he’s not referring to sandwiches.
Long isn’t the only Welsh fighter on the Bellator MMA roster. There’s also Brett Johns, and continued success from the pair could lure the promotion to Cardiff for a show. Long certainly hopes so.
“It’d be great, and it’s the first thing I’m going to call for after the fight. I know Brett Johns is fighting in Dublin; I’m not sure if that’s released or whatever, but I’ve seen him posting up. So he’ll get a win there, I’ll get a win [Friday], and then hopefully we’ll get some big names in the capital, Cardiff. And then we can fly the dragon.”
