Two weeks ago, Chase Sherman was out of a job, handed his walking papers from the UFC. One week ago, “The Vanilla Gorilla” was given a stay of execution, stepping up on short notice only for his fight with Alexander Romanov to be scrapped.
At UFC Vegas 53 on Saturday, Sherman finally got to throw down with fellow heavyweight “Kong” Romanov.
Both fighters took the center of the octagon after a touch of gloves. Romanov shot in and took Sherman down immediately. Sherman got up, and Romanov slammed him on his head. Sherman got up again, and Romanov got a single leg takedown. Romanov transitioned to full mount and started to drop bombs. Romanov then locked up an americana and forced Sherman to tap.

“King Kong” made it look too easy, as he should have, being a -2200 favorite. He was awarded his brown belt by his coach after the win.
Romanov is now 5-0 in the UFC with four finishes. He called out Augusto Sakai after the fight, which makes a ton of sense. The Moldovan could have a ranking next to his name on Tuesday.
Unfortunately for Chase Sherman that is four straight losses, but props to him for stepping up on short notice.
Official Result: Alexander Romanov def. Chase Sherman by submission (americana), Round 1, 2:11
