One of Montana De La Rosa’s biggest goals for 2022 is to get back into the flyweight top 15 rankings, and with a win on Saturday, she may will likely accomplish just that.
De La Rosa returns to action after a 10-month layoff. After her dominant win over Ariane Lipski last June, she was scheduled to return at UFC 269 against Maycee Barber. But unfortunately, she injured her ankle, and the fight was scrapped.
Four months later and De La Rosa is rebooked with Barber. The 27-year old is looking to get back into the top 15 flyweight rankings as one of her goals for 2022.
“Yeah, just getting this win, getting that number back on my name again, and fighting another ranked opponent,” De La Rosa told the media during UFC Vegas 52 media day.
Lucky enough for her, if she defeats Barber on Saturday, she has the chance to snag her opponent’s No. 14 ranking and get back into those rankings with one fight.
De La Rosa says she always looks for the finish, and that will continue at UFC Vegas 52. Especially with a new set of skills.
“You’re gonna see all the new tools I’ve been putting in the work I’ve made the sacrifices, and you’re gonna see a really good finish,” De La Rosa said. “I’m 100% always looking for the finish. I don’t like going in there and leaving it to the judges; that never works out well. So if I’m in there, you know, I’m 100% trying to finish you.”
