Alexander Romanov vs. Chase Sherman has dropped off the UFC Vegas 52 card.
During Saturday’s UFC Vegas 52 preliminary card broadcast, promotion officials announced that the main card match-up had been removed from the event. The culprit, a “minor health issue” suffered by Sherman.
“Out of an abundance of caution, they will not have [Sherman] fight tonight,” the broadcast stated.
Sherman (15-9) was returning to the promotion barely a week after being let go by the UFC. In his second stint with the company, he posted a 1-4 record, and had lost three straight bouts. However, Sin City is the town of opportunity in the eyes of many down on their luck, and Sherman took advantage of the chance to return to the UFC after being released just days prior to taking this bout.
As for Romanov (15-0), he had handled business since he entered the UFC finishing three of his four bouts in the promotion thus far. He had been looking to continue building momentum towards a big fight in the heavyweight division, but that will have to wait.
Romanov had originally been matched up with Tanner Boser, who was forced out due to injury. Romanov himself had stepped into that pairing as a replacement for Rodrigo Nascimento.
With the loss of Romanov vs. Sherman from the card, Jordan Wright vs. Marc-Andre Barriault has been bumped up to the UFC Vegas 52 main card.
