For the second time, a heavyweight match-up featuring Oumar Kane, a.k.a. “Reug Reug,” and Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida has fallen through for ONE Championship.
The fight, which was originally booked for April 2021 only to see Almeida pull out, had been part of Friday’s ONE 156: Eersel vs. Sadikovic main card. However, ONE officials revealed Monday that the fight was off once again, with the bout nowhere to be found on an update line-up sheet.
According to Marcus Almeida, addressing the news on social media, the culprit was an injury to Kane — with the bout being pushed back to May 20.
“My opponent got hurt again, so my fight has been postponed and it will be rescheduled to May 20th! I am ready to go and it don’t change a thing, eyes still on the prize!,” he wrote. “On May 20th I will be inside the ONE Championship circle against him or somebody else, but I will be there!”
Kane (3-1) started his MMA career with three straight finishes, split between ARES FC and ONE Championship. However, in his last fight, at ONE on TNT 4 last April, he failed to answer the bell after the second round against Kirill Grishenko.
Almeida (2-0) is unbeaten in his first two contests to date. Both of the BJJ world champion’s victories have come via submission.
ONE 156 goes down this Friday, April 22, 2022 in Kallang, Singapore. In place of Kane vs. Almeida, Chen Rui vs. Song Min Jong has been bumped up to the main card.
