Neil Magny continues to prove that he will fight anyone.
MMA Junkie was first to report the news that No. 10 ranked welterweight Magny will fight No. 15 ranked Shavkat Rakhmonov on June 25 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. A source close to the situation later confirmed the ranked welterweight match-up to Cageside Press.
Fresh off his win at UFC Columbus, Magny (26-8) will get right back to work. Last month he defeated Max Griffin via split decision. Before that, he handed Geoff Neal his second straight loss at UFC on ESPN: Rodriguez vs. Waterson. After his last win over Griffin, Magny tied UFC legend Georges St-Pierre with the most wins in the welterweight division with 19.
Rakhmonov (15-0) has been absolutely phenomenal since making his UFC debut in 2020. In his debut, he submitted Alex Oliveira in the first round on ‘Fight Island.’ In his next outing, he became the first fighter to finish Michel Prazeres, doing so via rear-naked choke. In his last outing in February, he knocked out Carlston Harris with a spinning hook kick.
The UFC’s June 25, 2022 event does not yet have an official location, venue, or broadcast plan announced. The card currently looks like this:
- Jinh Yu Frey vs. Vanessa Demopoulos
- Tim Elliott vs. Amir Albazi
- Josh Parisian vs. Alan Baudot
- Chris Curtis vs. Rodolfo Vieira
- Neil Magny vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov
