A standout from the latest season of Dana White’s Contender Series, Mike Malott made his promotional debut on Saturday at UFC 273 in Jacksonville, Florida.
For his first assignment inside the octagon, Malott had drawn Mickey Gall, who had been trading wins and losses dating back to 2016. On Saturday, Gall was looking to shake off a loss to Alex Morono.
Malott opened up the fight with a side kick to the body. Gall was coming forward and exchanging in the phone booth, and leaving his chin exposed when he did so. In an exchange, Malott did wobble Gall with a left hand. Gall returned fire with a combination of his own, and Malott stunned him again with a right hand.
Mickey Gall still came forward and did walk into a left but got a takedown. Malott however got right back up though and they separated. Gall kept coming in blind, and Malott landed a right behind the ear and a shovel left hook face-planting Gall. Some extra ground and pound sent the ref in. A stunning debut for the Waterdown, Ontario native.
Following the fight, Malott pledged the entirety of his show money, $10,000, to support a friend’s teenage daughter, who is battling cancer. The 15-year old is currently battling Stage 3 Lymphoma — a Go Fund Me can be found here.
