Welterweight, Axel Sola (2-0)
Pros
- Excellent kicks
- Good wrestling
- Submission threat
- Blends together kicks and punches
- Good knees
- Good ground and pound
Cons
- Can be repetitive with his striking
Sola is only 2-0 as a pro but had a successful amateur career. He went 19-5 as an amateur and the five guys he lost to are high-level fighters. Sola is a two-time IMMAF silver medalist and a Europen amateur champion.
It’s tough to get a lot of full-fight footage on Sola but it’s not hard to tell Sola is very talented. Sola is talented everywhere too being able to handle his own no matter where the fight is at. On the feet, his main focus is on his kickboxing. As his kicks set the tone his hands are really sharp when following behind the kicks. His striking in terms of his hands can be a little repetitive but is accurate and quick with the release.
Arguably his ground game is where he’s at his best. Every time I’ve seen the fight hit the mat Sola is on top in control. He stays active in position landing short ground and pound. When the opening is there he will transition to a dominant position. Sola is completely comfortable grinding away on top as he’s smart knowing when to seek the finish.
I can’t be comfortable saying how good Sola is due to the lack of footage. I won’t be surprised if Sola turns out really well due to his success as an amateur. He’s been fighting solid competition so he could very well be the real deal.
In conclusion, I’ll be adding Huaxiang Dong and Kaleb Rideout to my prospect list.
