The recently announced Bellator Dublin card this September has its first match-up set.
On Thursday, Bellator MMA officials announced that Peter Queally (13-6-1) would face Benson Henderson (29-11) at the event, scheduled for the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland on September 23, 2022. The Irish Sun was first to report the booking.
Henderson, 38, recently signed a new multi-fight deal with the promotion. The former UFC and WEC lightweight champion will enter the fight off a split decision win against Islam Mamedov, which snapped a three-fight skid. “Smooth” is currently ranked #3 in the 155-pound weight class.
Benson Henderson had put together four straight wins in the lightweight division from 2018 to 2019, prior to his recent slump. But with Patricio Pitbull tied up in the featherweight grand prix from 2019 onward, no title shot would materialize.
Queally, ranked #5 in the division, fought for the title back in November, falling to Patricky Pitbull with the vacant championship on the line. The fight was an instant rematch of their May meeting at Bellator 258, which Queally won thanks to a doctor’s stoppage, after a cut opened up on the Brazilian.
Previously fighting for BAMMA and Fight Nights Global, Peter Queally is 2-2 for Bellator MMA thus far.
The Bellator Dublin card is also expected to feature Sinead Kavanagh, though no opponent has been named for the featherweight as of yet.
