A pair of exciting UFC welterweights will collide in May, in a very fan-friendly match-up.
The Underground was first to report the news that No. 14 ranked welterweight Santiago Ponzinibbio will fight Michel Pereira on May 21 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. A source close to the situation was able to confirm the welterweight booking to Cageside Press.
Ponzinibbio (28-5) will defend his No. 14 ranking in May. The Argentinian is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Geoff Neal at UFC 269. Before that loss, he went to war with Miguel Baeza at UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Sakai in a 2021 fight of the year candidate; he won the fight via unanimous decision.
After losing two of his first three fights in the UFC, Pereira (26-11-2) is now riding a four-fight win streak and will finally get his crack at the welterweight top 15. The Brazilian was actually supposed to get his shot at the rankings in his last outing; however, Muslim Salikov pulled out the scheduled contest. In January, Pereira welcomed Andre Fialho to the UFC and won the fight via unanimous decision.
The UFC’s May 21, 2022 event does not yet have an official location, venue, or broadcast plan announced.
The May fight card currently looks like this:
- Ketlen Vieira vs. Holly Holm
- Ben Rothwell vs. Alexander Gustafsson

- Tabatha Ricci vs. Polyana Viana
