Las Vegas – Former UFC and Bellator star Chael Sonnen is facing 11 charges stemming from an alleged fight in a hotel in Las Vegas in December 2021.
TMZ was the first to report the charges.
Online court records show that Sonnen faces eleven charges including felony battery by strangulation. Previous reports stated that Sonnen had gotten in an altercation with six people including a female.
Documents detail what actions Sonnen is accused of taking in the Dec. 18th altercation including alleged choking of one person, possible striking of a female among others.
Originally charges had been dropped in January, but with the caveat that they could refile charges should the state opt to which they now have.
Sonnen fought for a UFC title three times, twice against Anderson Silva and once against Jon Jones. His Bellator run finished with two straight losses to Lyoto Machida and Fedor Emelianenko respectively. He hosts his own podcast and makes appearances on ESPN. Now 44-years old, Sonnen last competed in June 2019, in a loss to the aforementioned Machida.
Former UFC heavyweight Brandon Schaub previously revealed that Sonnen had been coming to his wife’s aid during the altercation. Sonnen, however, has yet to comment publicly on the matter.
