After three years away, the UFC at long last returned to London, England on Saturday, with UFC Fight Night: Volkov vs. Aspinall (or simply UFC London if you prefer) marking the first Fight Night event held outside of Vegas or Abu Dhabi since the pandemic began, with the exception of a couple of early shows in Jacksonville, Florida.
The Apex to Fight Island and back again trek of the UFC had become a familiar routine to fight fans, and the detour to England proved massively successful, with a huge amount of interest, and one of the most stacked British cards in the promotion’s history.
Atop the event, Russian heavyweight Alexander Volkov, ranked #6 in the weight class, took on Britain’s own Tom Aspinall. The co-feature, meanwhile, featured the return of Dan “The Hangman” Hooker to the featherweight ranks, in a key fight against the surging (but of late, inactive) Arnold Allen.
Also on the card, Liverpool natives Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann, with what seemed like an army of fans behind them. They were set to take on Kazula Vargas and Luana Carolina, respectively.
