A women’s flyweight match-up will bring together two surging fighters at UFC 274.
Tracy Cortez (8-1) is set to face Melissa Gatto (8-0-2) at the event, scheduled for May 7, 2022. ESPN Deportes was first to report news of the booking. Both fighters subsequently confirmed the bout on social media.
Cortez will be fighting for the first time in over a year when she steps into the octagon against Gatto. The 28-year old from Phoenix, Arizona will be fighting at home in the bout, and looking to build on an eight-fight win streak. Having not lost since her pro debut, Cortez has gone 3-0 in the UFC to date, most recently picking up a split decision win over Justine Kish.
That, however, was back in April of last year. Cortez was expected to return against JJ Aldrich in August, but had to pull out of the fight due to injury.
Brazil’s Gatto has won both of her fights inside the octagon thus far. She’ll be looking to maintain her unbeaten streak of 10 fights, including two draws, when she throws down with Cortez.
Both of Gatto’s wins in the UFC have come via stoppage, most recently care of a body kick that shut down TUF alum Sijara Eubanks.
