Making his debut at UFC Vegas 50 on Saturday night was Javid Basharat, paired up with Trevin Jones in a bantamweight bout on the preliminary card.

Basharat had won his way into the promotion on Dana White’s Contender Series last year, and brought an undefeated 11-0 record with him into his octagon debut. For his part, Jones was looking to bounce back from a submission loss last August.

Ahead of the fight, Basharat had been denied permission to walk out with the flag of Afghanistan, though he did represent the country.

Basharat started off pressuring but not over-committing on anything. Jones was looking for that one punch early just missing by inches. Basharat was light on his feet being able to slip those power punches. Jones did find his left hand a few times but Basharat wasn’t affected. Basharat landed a knee to the body of Jones and it hurt him badly. Still composed Basharat picked his shots landing knees, elbows, and that right hand to the body. Jones survived the round but was definitely down on the scorecards.

Jones was more aggressive at the start of round two landing the left hand bouncing Basharat off the cage. A lot of kicks to the lead leg of Basharat attacking on the inside and outside. Jones did try to get a takedown but Basharat defended very nicely. Jones was landing good leg kicks of his own and had more power. Basharat kept relaxed and would chip away on the outside. Basharat did a good job mixing it up always throwing something different to end the round.

Round three started off more competitive, with both fighters going shot for shot. Jones was swinging heavy leather but Basharat was giving him no space with his pressure. Jones was landing that right hand but for the most part, Basharat was getting right out of the way. A lot of feints from Basharat kept Jones guessing. As Basharat became more confident he was pressing more and Jones responded with some big power punches. The fight ended there, and while it felt close, two scorecards had it 30-27 for Basharat, the other scored it for him as well at 29-28.

Official Result: Javid Basharat def. Trevin Jones by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
