Former title challenger Marlon Moraes hoped to pull out of a tail spin when he threw down with China’s Song Yadong in the UFC Vegas 50 co-main event.
Moraes had lost three straight, and four of his last five, in stark contrast to Yadong who entered the night off back-to-back wins. The battle was between a man trying to make his case to be a title contender and the former champion (outside the UFC) trying to stop a bad losing streak that could see him on the outside looking in.
Right off the bat Song Yadong came after Moraes as he rocked him early with a nasty right hand. Moraes remained very patient and waited what seemed like an eternity, for bantamweights anyway, to throw anything, but when he did Song was nowhere to be found.
Once he saw Moraes stumble, Song put the pressure on the former WSOF champion with very calculated but very heavy shots. The end came when he put a combo on Moraes that forced him to cover up leaving him blind to the uppercut that would end the night for Marlon. With the win, Song Yadong improved to 19-6-1.
At 24-years-old this walk-off knockout could be the start of something big for Song Yadong.
