Kamuela Kirk was in search of his second win inside the UFC and fourth overall when he took on Damon Jackson in featherweight action on the UFC Vegas 50 card.
Jackson was 2-1 in his second stint with the promotion, and looking for his second straight victory. What resulted as another strong performance from “The Leech” in his second run with the company.
Off the opening bell, Jackson immediately went on the attack. “The Leech” pressed forward, forcing Kirk to stay on his heels; it was just under a minute before Kirk seemed to settle in as a result. He would fire off some kicks, fighting at a relaxed pace. As the round progressed, Jackson worked his jab, and in the second half, had Kirk hurt for a moment, though he couldn’t capitalize on it. Kirk continued working his kicks, targeting the legs, but Jackson fired a knee to the body that had Kirk retreating while under fire.
In round two, Jackson took the fight to the ground in the opening minute, and went to work on top. He’d spend plenty of time there, working the body while looking to pass guard. “The Leech” was living up to his name, as the seconds then minutes ticked away with Kirk no closer to getting off his back.
Kirk was left with little more than a brief arm-bar attempt, but when that didn’t work, Jackson slid into position for an arm-triangle choke, and forced the tap with less than 30 seconds left in the round!
