The UFC women’s flyweight title is expected to be on the line in June, when the UFC heads overseas for just the second time in 2022.
Following a stop in London, England later this month, the UFC has Singapore targeted as its next international destination. That will see UFC 275 take place on June 11, a card that will feature women’s flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko (22-3) facing Taila Santos (19-1).
MMA Fighting was first to report the news.
Shevchenko has not competed since a dominant fourth-round finish of Lauren Murphy at UFC 266 in September. The 33-year old has been a wrecking ball since arriving in the division in 2018, and has won eight straight fights — seven of them with gold on the line.
Her six title defenses are one more than Amanda Nunes had at bantamweight— though if you add in Nunes’ featherweight run, Shevchenko has a few more fights to go before taking over the title defense record as a whole.
Still, no one at flyweight has come close to matching Valentina Shevchenko’s domination — but Taila Santos appears ready to try.
The Brazilian has earned her title shot off the strength of a four-fight win streak that includes victories over Gillian Robertson, recently retired veteran Roxanne Modafferi, and longtime flyweight contender Joanne Wood. She submitted Wood within a round when the pair met last November.
