Gunnar Nelson’s return to the octagon is set.
Nelson (17-5-1), who last competed in September of 2019, will face Claudio Silva (14-3) at UFC London on March 19, 2022. News of the bout was first reported by Alfredo Zullino on Twitter. Silva subsequently confirmed the booking on social media.
Just a week ago, Nelson had announced that he had signed a new deal with the promotion. When he finally returns to action, it will have been nearly two and a half years between fights for the Icelandic welterweight. He’ll also be looking to snap a two-fight skid, as in his last two bouts, Nelson suffered defeats to both Gilbert Burns and Leon Edwards.
Claudio Silva has also lost two straight. In his last two outings, the most recent coming in May of last year, he’s dropped fights to Court McGee and James Krause.
This year’s UFC London card will take place at the O2 Arena in London, England on March 19, 2022. The following match-ups have been reported for the card thus far:
