Ahead of Saturday’s UFC 270 card, bantamweight Cody Stamann has expressed a desire for the biggest, toughest fights in the division. Names like Jose Aldo, Frankie Edgar, and TJ Dillashaw.
To get to those fights, Stamann would need to first get past Dagestani wrestler Said Nurmagomedov.
The start to Stamann vs. Nurmagomedov was ferocious to say the least, at least on behalf of the Dagestani. He opened with a kick, missed on a big swing, cracked Stamann with a punch, fired a spinning back fist, then wailed on the body with a spinning back kick immediately after. Frankly showing he was far more than just another Dagestani with stifling wrestling.

More spinning attacks to the body followed. Stamann went to his wrestling, and shot straight into an extremely tight guillotine. The American’s knees were barely on the mat by the time he started tapping; with both men dry, he had little chance to escape.
For Stamann, a considerable setback, given his aspirations for big fights in the 135lb division. He’s now lost three straight. For Said Nurmagomedov, an impressive return in his first fight since 2020. Nurmagomedov has now won two in a row, and is 4-1 in the promotion overall.
Official Result: Said Nurmagomedov def. Cody Stamann by submission (guillotine choke), Round 1, 0:47
