UFC 270 Loses Movsar Evloev vs. Ilia Topuria

UFC 270 has lost a fantastic featherweight match-up.

On Tuesday, Ilia Topuria announced on his Twitter that his fight with Movsar Evloev is off of UFC 270 on January 22.

“Bad news! @MovsarUFC is out. We already knew that this was gonna happen. @Dynamitedan808, are you up for a fight? Let me know ASAP and if you are down, hope to see you on January 22. Let’s go,” Topuria wrote.

Cageside Press confirmed the news with a source familiar with the situation. Evloev’s withdrawal was due to illness.

Topuria vs. Ige is an awesome fight; however, according to Cole Shelton, Ige is not available. He reported that “Dan Ige will NOT be stepping in to fight Ilia Topuria at #UFC270, he tells me. He says he’s legitimately minutes away from hopping on a plane to go to Hawaii with his wife and son to visit family and go back home.”

Ariel Helwani has also reported that the UFC plans to keep the Georgian on the pay-per-view.
Topuria (11-0) has been terrific so far in the UFC. In his UFC debut, he defeated Youssef Zalal via unanimous decision, and then two months later, he knocked out Damon Jackson. In his only fight in 2021, he became the only man to defeat Ryan Hall in the UFC and did so via first round knockout.
UFC 270 takes place next week in Anaheim California. The card currently consists of the following bouts:
Francis Ngannou (c) vs. Ciryl Gane – for the UFC heavyweight championship
Brandon Moreno (c) vs. Deiveson Figueiredo – for the UFC flyweight championship
Ilia Topuria vs. TBD
