Las Vegas, NV – There are a lot of characters in the sport of MMA but none as smooth with the comedy like UFC heavyweight Derrick Lewis who defeated Chris Daukus by KO at UFC Vegas 45 at the UFC APEX on Saturday Night.
“That was for Rodney King,” Lewis said seemingly fighting back a smile.
“You know, I’m fighting a police officer man come on. That’s the only time you get a chance to punch a police officer in the mouth and get away with it. And then he gets up and shake your hand? Sh*t, that’s a great feeling man. Great feeling.”
Lewis also threw his cup into the crowd right before they announced him as the winner and a fan was able to secure it and run back to his seat.
“That’s the first time I threw my cup into the crowd yeah. I was surprised that a dude pushed a woman out of the way to grab that cup but, it is what it is.”
As for what he thought the fan would do with the cup?
“I seen him put it in his pocket. He went back and sat down with a big kool-aid smile on his face.”
Lewis (26-8) ends 2021 on a win after losing to Cyril Gane via TKO at UFC 265. What’s next for The Black Beast can be put simply as ‘3 rounds’.
“It doesn’t matter who it is. I don’t care. If it’s 3 rounds I guess Stipe. No matter who it is 3 rounds man,” Lewis said. Then he interrupted the next question to make sure the point came across.
“No, no, no, no 3 rounds! If you see my name and they said ‘Derrick fighting main event’ I’m going to say I’m hurt or I got COVID or something like that, I’m not showing up to the fight. I’m dead serious, 3 rounds.”
With a heavyweight title fight coming up in January between champion Francis Ngannou and interim champ Cyril Gane, Lewis gave his thoughts on the fight. Sort of.
“I really don’t care. I don’t care who wins. Cyril I guess he’s a good dude. He’s a likeable guy you know I couldn’t find anything wrong with him. His personality-wise outside the fight he seemed like a pretty cool dude. Ngannou on the other hand, he can kiss my ass. He seems like a d*ckhead 24/7 so, f*ck him.”
