On Wednesday, at UFC Vegas 45 media day, Ferreira opened up about the accident for the first time.
“It was really tough for me, that part of my life. To see my son on the table of the hospital— we got through it, though. I don’t think it was my fault, but it was me who gave him the authority to ride my own bike. He was enjoying something that I enjoy. It’s just something like you want to see your son do everything you like,” Ferreira told Cageside Press. “Being in the hospital because of my bike was not my plan. I still feel like that. I don’t know why, but that hurt me. I’ve never seen something like that, especially with my kids. My kids are everything to me. It was tough.”
Thankfully, Ferreira’s son is healthy. He is still recovering six months later, slowly but surely. The Brazilian gave an update on his progress.
“Thank God he recovered. I’m not going to say 100%, but he’s really doing his best to get back to training, weights, everything he was into. He’s ready to get into the fire department. He is so excited about that. I’m proud of him. He’s my first child, but damn, the boy is everything I have. My three [kids] inspire me.”
On Saturday, Ferreira defends his No. 12 ranking against Mateusz Gamrot while trying to snap a two-fight losing streak.
