Things did not go according to plan at Friday’s KSW 65 weigh-in.
The final card of the year for the Polish promotion includes two title fights, but in one, the champ has missed weight — and been stripped of his title as a result. The offending title holder, Daniel Torres (12-4), came in at 146lbs for his featherweight title defense against Salahdine Parnasse (15-1-1). That’s one pound over championship weight.
Promotion officials announced the news following Friday’s official weigh-in.
The fight is a rematch of the pair’s January title fight, which saw Torres serve up the first loss of Parnasse’s career. The belt will remain on the line for Parnasse, who successfully made weight on Friday.
The night’s other title fight, billed as a super-fight, sees welterweight champion Roberto Soldic trying to claim a second title against middleweight champ Mamed Khalidov. Both fighters successfully made weight for that contest.
Torres was not the only fighter to miss weight, however. Hassan Shaaban, who was stepping in on short notice, could not make the contracted weight for his fight with Patryk Likus. He’s been replaced by Piotr Olszynka. Bartosz Rewera came in heavy for his fight with Shamad Erzanukaev and will be fined a percentage of his purse.
KSW 65 takes place Saturday, December 18 in Gliwice, Poland. Weigh-in results for the card can be found below.
