A pair of exciting UFC bantamweights will collide in March.
MMA Island was first to report the news that Trevin Jones will fight Javid Basharat on March 12 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. Multiple sources close to the situation later confirmed the fight news to Cageside Press.
After starting his UFC career on fire, Jones (13-7-1) ran into some horrible luck in 2021. Four of his five opponents pulled out their fight between July 24 and August 21, leaving him opponent-less and having to cut weight twice in a short span. UFC newcomer Saidyokub Kakhramonov finally answered the call and ended up submitting Jones in his last outing, snapping his win streak. Jones was scheduled to face Raoni Barcelos in December but pulled out of the fight for unknown reasons.
Basharat (11-0) won a UFC contract in his last outing on season five of Dana White’s Contender Series. He defeated fellow undefeated fighter Oron Kahlon via third-round submission. Basharat holds a 100% finish rate.
The UFC’s March 12, 2022 event does not have an official location, venue, or broadcast plan announced. Thiago Santos and Magomed Ankalaev are expected to headline the event.
The Fight Night card currently breaks down as follows:
- Thiago Santos vs. Magomed Ankalaev
- Guido Cannetti vs. Kris Moutinho
- Trevin Jones vs. Javid Basharat
