Bryan Barberena will stay on this weekend’s UFC Vegas 44 card after all.
Iridium Sports Agency announced Tuesday on social media that their newest client, Darian Weeks, will be stepping in four days’ notice to fight UFC veteran Barberena at UFC on ESPN: Font vs. Aldo. Barberena was scheduled to face Matt Brown; however, Brown had to withdraw due to a positive COVID-19 test.
Welterweight Barberena (15-8) is coming off a majority decision loss to Jason Witt at UFC on ESPN: Hall vs. Strickland, which won Fight of the Night. Before that, he defeated Anthony Ivy in his only fight in 2020. “Bam Bam” is 1-3 in his last four and needs a win.
Weeks (5-0) enters the UFC holding an undefeated record and a 100% finish rate. Weeks has never been to a third-round in his professional career. Weeks knocked out Craig Fairley in February and was supposed to face Josh Quinlan during week 2 of Dana White’s Contender Series, but the fight was scrapped due to COVID.
UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Aldo takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV, and will be broadcast on ESPN.
