In what promised to be an explosive bantamweight showdown, the surging Adrian Yanez was paired up against Davey Grant at UFC Vegas 43.
Both men were proven finishers, and Yanez’s three-win, three-Performance bonus streak to start his UFC career was something to behold.
The fight opened up with a respectful touch of the gloves between Adrian Yanez and “Dangerous” Davey Grant and just like that, the main card for UFC Vegas 43 was underway.
Davey Grant came out strong to start the round with some jumping and spinning attacks, but Adrian Yanez settled down and began to connect with his polished boxing. A big left landed on Grant, backing him up with a minute left in the round. As the round came to a close, it could have gone either way on the judges’ cards.
Grant’s leg kicks began to land to start the next round. Round two was stalled briefly as Grant scrapped Yanez in the eye, forcing Herb Dean to step in to give Yanez time to recover from the eye poke. As action continued, Grant failed on a takedown against the cage and the fight resumed in the middle of the Octagon. Yanez capitalized on the spinning, flashy attacks with counters and nicely timed jabs from Yanez. Davey Grant began to land some heavy shots at the end of the second round.
Adrian Yanez and Davey Grant traded strikes once again in the middle of the Octagon in the third round. Yanez landed some nice counters and continued to bust the already cut nose of Grant with crisp jabs. After three rounds the fight was in the hands of the judges with Yanez getting the split decision victory. The only oddity, the dissenting score for Grant was a 30-27.
