UFC Vegas 42 was a bit of an afterthought outside of a highly anticipated main event. The midday Saturday card turned out to be a good one, however, with a number of hot finishes and wild fights.
The main event, though, absolutely stole the show. The returning Yair Rodriguez, out of action of two years, started out strong against former featherweight champ Max Holloway. As the fight went on, the tide turned, and it was Holloway turning up the heat, piecing up Rodriguez and leaving his face a mess.
For their efforts, the pair took home Fight of the Night honors. That’s the second straight Fight of the Night for Holloway, adding to the one he claimed against Calvin Katter back on Fight Island earlier this year.
Two Performance of the Night bonuses were awarded on Saturday. One of those went to Andrea “KGB” Lee, who put on a striking clinic against Cynthia Calvillo. By the end of the second round, Lee’s corner was urging her to finish the fight in the final five minutes. As it turned out, those five minutes were not required. Calvillo did not answer the bell; it was later revealed that her corner had advised her against continuing.
The other Performance bonus at UFC Vegas 42 went to Khaos Williams, for his blistering knockout of Miguel Baeza.
All four bonus-winning fighters will pick up an extra $50,000 for their efforts.
