New York, NY — Any fighter riding a two-fight losing streak knows that a third straight loss usually means they’re on the chopping block when it comes to their spot on the UFC roster. Shane Burgos felt that pressure and made sure that he would not be one of those fighters finding themselves outside of the UFC.
“It’s good to f*cking be back. It’s good to be back fighting but it’s good to be back in the win column,” he told media outlets including Cageside Press following UFC 268 on Saturday. “It’s a big relief because I can finally breathe, relax. I’m a f*cking sore loser even though my last two fights were, everybody loved those fights, and yeah they were good. Maybe when I’m older and on my death bed I’ll look back and be proud of those but as of right now I’m not proud of those at all. Those are two losses those piss me the f*ck off.”
Fierce competitors seem to hate losing more than they love winning and some of that definitely radiates from Burgos who had a great performance against a very game Billy Quarantillo.
“I definitely thought I won the second and third round. I knew the first round was close but my coaches said ‘Act like you won that round’ and they all gave it to him so that’s fine. That’s my fault. Props to him but I knew I definitely won the second and third.”
So what’s next for Shane Burgos?
“I gotta get an x-ray on my hand. We’ve got to see how that’s going it’s hurting a little bit right now. I’m going to enjoy the holidays with the family. I have a 6-month-old daughter. She was three weeks old and I had a fight camp and then I went to a fight. So that was rough leaving my wife basically high and dry. She had to deal with that. Now I have a 6-month-old and I had to leave her high and dry again. So I need a little bit of baby, daddy-daughter time. My 4-year-old as home too so I’m excited just to enjoy the holidays and maybe go to Disney World or something.”
Official Result: Shane Burgos def. Billy Quarantillo by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
