New York, NY — The UFC lightweight division is stacked, and one fight flew a bit under the radar at UFC 268 in Madison Square Garden when Bobby Green finished Al Iaquinta in the first round.
Green (28-12) had spent all week talking to the media about Iaquinta’s comment that he expected a “flawless victory” at MSG. That was enough to put a chip on Green’s shoulder going into Saturday night.
“Yeah it upset me a little bit you know because I’m living in the real world. I’m not going to say anything that I’m not really going to do. I don’t make predictions. Living in the real world and knowing what you say and what you have to back up behind that you know? And sometimes those words will bite you in the ass. Like Conor [McGregor] said I’m going to put the guy on a stretcher. And then he ended up leaving on a stretcher,” Green said.
“He said it’s going to be a flawless victory. Well I didn’t get touched. It’s kind of like you’ve got to watch what you say.”
With so many highlight finishes on the card Green is hoping for some luck when it comes to Dana White giving out bonuses.
“Man, everybody’s hitting tonight. The night that I hit, everybody’s hitting. I’m like ‘Oh it’s going to be a long night.’ Hopefully he gives more than one bonus. Because this is the thing I want to tell him. We’ve been giving 50 thousand away for 25 years plus. You ain’t ever heard of inflation? It’s not the same 50 anymore! Don’t get me wrong, I love it! But come on now should at least shoot us some more then.”
Let’s hope Uncle Dana is in a giving mood tonight.
