Six titles, and six million dollar prize purses, were up for grabs on Wednesday at the PFL 2021 World Championship.
First, however, the finalists would have to make weight.
Kayla Harrison was once again set to top the card, looking to make it back-to-back championship wins against the far less experienced Taylor Guardado. With free agency looming for Harrison, a strong performance (and avoiding any potential missteps) was key for the Olympian.
In the co-main event, the welterweight championship final saw two former winners collide. Magomed Magomedkerimov had won it all in 2018, beating Ray Cooper III in the process. With Magomedkerimov forced to withdraw in 2019, Cooper III had ascended to the throne. Now the pair would finally face off once again, in a champ versus champ fight of sorts given both were coming off winning seasons.
Also set for the card on Wednesday, boxing champ Claressa Shields would fight in the cage for a second time, while former UFC standouts Omari Akhmedov and Don Madge made their promotional debuts. Julia Budd, a former Bellator MMA featherweight champion, was also competing for the first time under the league banner.
The Professional Fighters League 2021 World Championship will take place on October 27, 2021 in Hollywood, Florida at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Weigh-ins go down Tuesday morning — check below for results.
