A pair of bantamweights looking to make it two wins in a row will collide at a UFC event this December.
Multiple sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity, have confirmed to Cageside Press that Vince Morales will fight Louis Smolka on December 4 at UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Aldo.
Morales (10-5) picked up his second win in the promotion against Drako Rodriguez at UFC 265 in August, winning a unanimous decision. “Vendetta” also returned from a torn Achilles tendon in his last fight. The win over Rodriguez snapped a two-fight losing streak and very likely saved his job.
Last December, Louis Smolka (17-7) got back into the win column when he finished José Alberto Quiñónez via TKO in the second round at UFC on ESPN: Hermansson vs. Vettori. “Da Last Samurai” was supposed to return to action at UFC 264 against Sean O’Malley; however, an injury forced Smolka to withdraw from the fight. When Smolka faces Morales in December, it will be almost a year to the day from his last fight.
UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Aldo will take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV. No broadcast plan has been officially announced for the event.
The December 4 fight card now includes the following reported bouts:
- Rob Font vs. Jose Aldo
- Jimmy Crute vs. Jamahal Hill
- Chris Gruetzemacher vs. Claudio Puelles
- Rafael Fiziev vs. Brad Riddell
- Montserrat Ruiz vs. Mallory Martin
- Brendan Allen vs. Brad Tavares
- Bryan Barberena vs. Matt Brown
- Zhalgas Zhumagulov vs. Manel Kape
- Sergei Pavlovich vs. Tanner Boser
- Vince Morales vs. Louis Smolka
