Octagon newcomer Mike Breeden was stepping in on short notice against Alexander Hernandez at UFC Vegas 38 on Saturday.
A well-traveled veteran with Glory MMA and Fitness, Breeden’s jump to the UFC had been in the making for a while, and he’d previously appeared on Dana White’s Contender Series. While Hernandez had faltered since his loss to Cowboy Cerrone, he was no easy out, and Saturday’s lightweight (well, catchweight) bout promised to be a fun one.
The only negative, Breeden had missed weight for the fight, albeit on short notice.
Both guys got started right away, throwing a lot of volume to open up the UFC Vegas 38 main card. Hernandez tried to get the takedown twice but Breeden defended it well. Hernandez sat in the pocket and landed a left-right combo off the break stunning Breeden. The right hand foreshadowed what was to come. Breeden was in danger and Hernandez kept the pressure with his hands knocking the mouthpiece of Breeden out. It was a right hand that knocked Breeden out cold in the end, giving Alexander Hernandez a highlight reel finish.

The victory gets Hernandez back in the win column, as he’s been trading wins and losses since winning his first two fights in the promotion back in 2018.
Official Result: Alexander Hernandez def. Mike Breeden by KO (right hand), Round 1, 1:20
