Kyle Daukaus was a little surprised about getting matched up with a ranked fighter this weekend.
Daukaus is 1-2 in the UFC but has a shot to take his opponent, Kevin Holland’s No. 14 middleweight ranking in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 38. If you think that is kind of surprising, Daukaus is with you on that. He was surprised he got the fight.
“It was a bit surprising that I got the fight, but I can’t say no to the fight. I wasn’t going to say no to anyone they gave me, so if it’s Kevin Holland, No. 14, it’s No. 14,” Daukaus told reporters during the UFC Vegas 38 media day.
Daukaus realizes that a second loss in a row is not a good look and plans on winning no matter what, even if that means a boring three-round fight.
“I have to win regardless of the outcome. I’m not going to chase anything, I’m not going to force anything, I’m going out there to win. If I have to make it a boring three-round fight, I’ll make it a boring three-round fight, you know? I’m here to just take his number and get paid. I’m not going to be flashy and do something that would be a mistake and make me get knocked out,” Daukaus said.
