UFC 266 brings with it two title fights and the return of Nick Diaz.
Diaz alone should garner plenty of attention. The Stockton native, with his love/hate relationship with fighting, hasn’t been seen in the octagon since 2015. He’s already thrown a wrench in the works ahead of his return, ensuring his rematch with Robbie Lawler was moved up a weight class at the last minute.
Then he skipped media day.
Which makes Thursday’s UFC 266 pre-fight press conference the first chance fans get to see much of Diaz.
The card’s main event, meanwhile, sees featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski put his title on the line against Brian Ortega. The pair butted heads as coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 29, with Ortega’s perpetual tardiness an continuing irritant for the more professional champ.
Valentina Shevchenko, in the co-main event, enters UFC 266 in search of a sixth consecutive title defense — which would tie her with Ronda Rousey for the record among female fighters.
