Argue all you like about the merits of a Youtube boxer facing fellow celebrities and mixed martial artists past their prime in the ring, but Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley is happening on Sunday.
The bout, which will air on Showtime in the U.S., has been positioned as Paul’s toughest test to date. Which, considering that the most formidable striker he has faced to date was wrestler Ben Askren (fresh off hip surgery), isn’t saying much. Really, it sort of makes Paul’s boxing akin to being the best bull fighter in Alaska.
The Woodley match-up, however, has been viewed different. A former UFC welterweight champion with legitimate punching power, Woodley has a chance at catching Paul with some nasty — even if wrestling is his base.
The 39-year old from Ferguson hasn’t won a fight since 2018, but he’s only been knocked out once in his career, discounting a TKO via rib injury in the Colby Covington fight. Which means we could see Paul dragged into deep waters on Sunday.
Weigh-ins for the sideshow fight went down Saturday, with both main event players making weight. Paul hit the scales at 190lbs, with Woodley, who fought at 170 in MMA, coming in just a half pound under his opponent at 189.5lbs.
