After a rare week on the sidelines, the UFC was set to return on Saturday with a middleweight showdown situated as the UFC Vegas 34 main event.
That headliner had Ultimate Fighter winner Kelvin Gastelum taking on the returning Jared Cannonier.
For Cannonier, the event marked his first fight back since a loss to Robert Whittaker snapped his three-fight win streak — and his arm. The healed up “Killa Gorilla” would look to bounce back against a Gastelum also coming off a loss to Whittaker, albeit a more recent one, and on short notice.
Still, the ex-TUF champ was in dire straits, with a 1-4 record across his last five fights.

Kelvin Gastelum needed a bit of time, but did make weight Friday. Newcomer Saidyokub Kakhramonov did not, and will forfeit 20% of his purse as a result.
