A pair of middleweight knockout artists will collide in October.
MMA Junkie was first to report the news that Julian Marquez will fight Jordan Wright on October 16 at a yet-to-be-announced UFC event. Marquez confirmed the booking on his Instagram.
Since returning from his two-year layoff in February, Julian Marquez (9-2) has gone on a winning streak, winning both of his fights, keeping his 100% finish rate. In his return fight, “The Cuban Missile Crisis” would get a come from behind last-minute submission win over Maki Pitolo, earning him Performance of the Night. Marquez would keep busy and return two months later by putting Sam Alvey to sleep in the second round.
Wright (12-1-1) got back into the win column at UFC 262 in May by finishing Jamie Pickett in just over a minute. Before his most recent win, he was knocked out at UFC 255 by Joaquin Buckley. So far, “The Beverly Hills Ninja” is 2-1 in the UFC. Like Marquez, Wright also owns a 100% finish rate.
No location, venue, or broadcast plan has been officially announced for the October 16 event, but UFC President Dana White said that all Fight Nights will be staying at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV.
The October 16 fight card now includes the following reported bouts:
- L’udovit Klein vs. Nate Landwehr
- Luana Carolina vs. Maryna Moroz
- Andrei Arlovski vs. Carlos Felipe
- Norma Dumont vs. Holly Holm
- Julian Marquez vs. Jordan Wright
- Ariane Carnelossi vs. Istela Nunes
